Pulaski County Republican Committee
of the Republican Party of Virginia

As Chairman of the Pulaski County Republican Committee, and pursuant to the Plan of organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Joseph K. Goodman, do hereby issue this call for a Mass Meeting to be held at the Fazoli’s Restaurant, 4416 Cleburne Blvd, Dublin, VA 24084 or alternate location on Thursday, April 4, 2024, starting at 7pm local time (with registration opening at 6pm) on April 4th for the following purposes:

1.      To elect a unit chairman, vice-chairman, treasurer, secretary, and members to the unit committee.

2.      Electing Delegates and Alternates to the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention, to be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, and Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Hampton Roads Convention Center, 1610 Coliseum Dr., Hampton VA 23666, or its alternate site, opening at 2:30 p.m. on May 31 for the purposes of:

  • a.      electing a State Chairman,
  • b.      nominating a National Committeeman and National Committeewoman,
  • c.       nominating 2 electors at-large to serve in the 2024 Electoral College, and
  • d.      the transaction of other business as may properly come before the Convention.

Each unit is entitled to one (1) Delegate Vote per 250 Republican votes cast for Governor and President at their last election, so that Pulaski County is entitled to 87 Delegate Votes.

3.      And for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the mass meeting.

Qualifications for Participation

All legal and qualified voters of Pulaski County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.

In addition to the foregoing, to be in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, unless otherwise stipulated by the appropriate Official Committee, a person otherwise qualified hereunder shall not have participated in Virginia in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party within the last five years.

A single exception to this shall be approved for a voter that renounces affiliation with any other party in writing, and who expresses in writing that he/she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends, at the time of this writing, to support the nominees of the Republican Party in the future. Any voter that utilizes the forgoing exception, and thereafter participates in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party, shall not have the benefit of the exception thereafter.

Filing Requirements

Candidates for election for Unit Chairman, Members of the Pulaski County Republican Committee, or as a delegate or alternate delegate to the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention at said mass meeting shall file a written statement by mail or in person, to Sherry Johnson, PC Republican Committee Secretary, P.O. Box 265, Pulaski, VA 24301 which must be received not later than 5pm, March 25, 2024 and accompanied by any fees required. Postmarks shall not govern.

Candidacy filing fees are as follows:

·         Unit Chairman – $250.00 filing fee.

·         Unit Committee Member – $25 dues per year or waived for veterans.

·         Delegate/Alternate Delegate to the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention – $45.00 registration.

Please make checks payable to the Pulaski County Republican Committee.

Uncontested Offices/Cancellation of Mass Meeting

If no more than one candidate files for election to any office to be voted upon at the mass meeting, that candidate will be declared elected, and the pre-filing fee be returned. If fewer than the maximum number of unit committee members that Pulaski County Republican Committee has established pre-file, all properly pre-filed candidates shall be declared elected to the applicable unit committee membership position. If fewer than the maximum number of Delegates that Pulaski County is entitled to at any convention pre-file, all properly pre-filed candidates shall be declared elected. If there are no contested offices to be voted upon at the mass meeting, then no mass meeting will be held.

Registration Fees for Mass Meeting & Convention

There will be a voluntary registration fee of $10 to participate in the Pulaski County Republican Committee Mass Meeting. Please make checks payable to the Pulaski County Republican Committee.

There is a mandatory registration fee of $45.00 for each delegate/alternate delegate elected to the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention. Please make checks payable to the Pulaski County Republican Committee, which will forward the registration fee to the Republican Party of Virginia.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, members of the Pulaski County Republican Committee gathered to open the 2023 headquarters for the party. The headquarters is located 111 Broad Street in Dublin (next to TA’s produce and for those that remember, it is the old Arby’s location).

Please fee free to dop by, ask questions and grab a yard sign. The headquarters is staffed by volunteers and if there is no-one there when you drop by, you can leave a message or complete a request for signs or a follow-up.

On Saturday, August 6, 2022, the Pulaski County Republican Committee hosted a Party Canvass for the Republican nomination for the Special Election for a one year term to the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors on November 8, 2022. Chairman Sayers would like to report that a total of 149 ballots were cast with a total 94 votes for Mike Mooney and 55 votes for Andy McCready. As such, Mike Mooney won and has been declared the Republican nominee for the special election on November 8th. Congratulations to Mike Mooney and thank you to our voters and candidates for your willingness to serve the people of the Massie District.

The Republican Canvass scheduled for Saturday, August 6, 2022 between 10am and 2pm at the Big Red Barn is still scheduled to happen for voters in the Massie District. For the Massie District, the following candidates qualified for the ballot:

  • Andy McCready
  • Mike Mooney

Republican voters living in the Massie District are encouraged to come out and vote for their candidate. The winner of the Canvass will be the Pulaski County Republican Party’s Republican candidate for the special election in November.

For the races in the Cloyd and Robinson Districts, only one candidate each sought the nomination for their district:

  • Cloyd District: Adam Hall
  • Robinson District: Jeff Reeves

As required by the State Party Plan. Chairman Sayers has appointed the following individuals to the Credentials Committee for the Canvass:

  • Billy Williams
  • Debbie Lyons
  • Francis Viers
  • Angi Simpkins
  • Trevor Simpkins

Special Election for one year term Pulaski County Board of Supervisors

November 8, 2022

As Chairman of the Pulaski County Republican Committee, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Eddie Sayers do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass of the Pulaski County Republican Party to be held at the Big Red Barn, 4241 Lee Hwy, Pulaski, VA 24301, or alternate location to be determined) starting at 10 AM and ending at 2 PM local time on August 6, 2022, for the following purposes:

  1. Nominate candidate for Board of Supervisors (Cloyd District); and
  2. Nominate candidate for Board of Supervisors (Robinson District); and
  3. Nominate candidate for Board of Supervisors (Massie District)

Qualifications for Participation

Filing Requirements

All candidates for the nomination for the Board of Supervisors in the Cloyd District, Robinson District, and Massie District at said Party Canvass shall pay a nonrefundable $100.00 filing fee by check made out to the Pulaski County Republican Party and deliver a written statement to:

by mail or in person, no later than Friday, July 28th, 2022, at 5:00 PM local time. Postmarks will not govern. The required written statement shall be: the Declaration of Candidacy for the Pulaski County Republican Committee nomination to the Board of Supervisors.

Only pre-filed candidates will be considered for the nomination at the Party Canvass. In the event no nominations are contested, the party canvass will be canceled and all candidates who pre-filed in good order will be declared the Republican nominees.
